Emily Angeline “Anne” Powell Burman, born Feb. 15, 1926 in Hernando, Miss., died March 3, 2009 at Mobile Infirmary.
She grew up in Batesville, Miss., and gradauted from the University of Mississippi where she was a member of Phi Mu sorority, a cheerleader and a college favorite and beuty.
She met and married her first husband, John M. McLendon, a native of Indianola, Miss.
In 1976 she married Dr. Richard G. Burman of Gulfport, Miss. They resided in Pass Christian, Miss., for several years and retired to Point Clear.
She was a member of Lakewood Golf Club, Fairhope Yacht Club, Trinity Episcopal Church, Pass Christian, Miss., and was dedidcated to the game of bridge.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband and a brother, Coleman Powell Jr.
Survivors include a son, John M. (Cammie) McLendon; grandchildren, Julia Anne McLendon of Duluth, Ga., Sarah Welniak and Cameron Welniak of Charleston, S.C.; two sisters-in-law, Emily Smith of Indianola, Miss., and Elizabeth Burman of Toledo, Ohio; several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A memorial service wil be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 6, at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Fairhope. Visitation will be held after the service at her home.
The family requests memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
