DAPHNE, Ala.—District 4 Councilman Greg Burnam submitted Tuesday his official letter of resignation, effective July 31.
Burnam, whose district encompasses a substantial portion of Lake Forest and the surrounding areas, announced June 7 his intent to step down in order to focus more energy on his business, Goodyear of Daphne, in the midst of a national economic recession. His term was slated to end Nov. 1, 2012.
City Clerk David Cohen said state law dictates the council has 60 days from the date of resignation to assign Burnam’s replacement, and if for some reason action is not taken within the two-month window, the duty would fall to Gov. Bob Riley.
