ORANGE BEACH, Ala. — The Commercial Yard Of The Month is the city of Orange Beach-Gulf State Park Butterfly Garden located on the Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail. More commonly known as the legendary “Catman Road.”
The Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail was a joint project between the city of Orange Beach and the Gulf State Park. The Trail is more than seven miles long, stretching from Highway 161 to State Park Road in Gulf Shores. Both hikers and bikers now have access to the previously unseen wildlands within the Gulf State Park. Along the Trail you will find diverse flora and fauna, wildlife information, seating, a picnic area and comfort station.
It takes vision, planning, and a lot of elbow grease to create a Butterfly Garden. And on May 17, 2008, during a Backcountry Trail Work Day, Nicole Woerner and Philip West’s long-time idea of planting one became a reality. With gardening supplies at hand, a crew of volunteers worked together to bring the Butterfly Garden to life.
Keeping the Butterfly Garden well maintained is essential. The city of Orange Beach landscaping team are up for the challenge. Their gardening skills and hard work can be seen at many locations around town.
