PERDIDO BEACH, Ala. — U.S. Congressman Bradley Byrne would like to open all healthcare options up to the free marketplace.
During a town hall meeting in Perdido Beach Monday, the District 1 representative offered that as a solution to the nation’s healthcare crisis.
“You should be able to shop for health insurance like you shop for a car or a loaf of bread,” he said.
Byrne told attendees that he has a bill in mind that would repeal Obama Care and replace it with a free-market system.
The Congressman also referenced a conversation with a constituent who pointed out that while 50 years ago medical costs were low, so was the quality of care in the United States.
“There’s a cost to that,” Byrne said of medical care.
He added that while the current system is flawed, so was the one before it. So his solution is to make healthcare options available for people to purchase on their own.
“I’d trust individual consumers a lot more than the federal government,” he said.
