C. Terry Cline Jr. of Fairhope died in his sleep at home, early Tuesday morning, May 21, 2013.

Born July 14, 1935 in Birmingham, Ala. of parents who were writers, Terry Cline loved words and stories from the moment he began to talk. That love resulted in a long career of writing and storytelling with 10 published books, a children’s play, many articles and short stories to his credit.

In 1968, Terry met Judith Richards in Montgomery, and they married in 1979, always working together on their novels. One of Judith’s novels, “Summer Lightning,” depicted the lively Terry at age 6, skipping school, smoking cigarettes and running free in the Everglades.

Judith and Terry moved to Fairhope in 1977 and became an integral part of the writing community.

C. Terry, as he was called by close friends, is survived by his wife, Judith; a son, Marc Cline in Pennsylvania; two daughters, Blaise Cline Pecorino and Cabeth Cline in Florida; and Judith’s son, Charles Kriel in England. He also leaves grandchildren, cousins, his former wife and lifelong friend, Linda Cline of Wacissa, Fla.; and a sister, Ann Morris of Fairhope; and brother, Lloyd Cline of Thomasville, Ga.

Terry Cline loved nature and living near the water. Therefore his memorial service will be held June 30, at 10:30 a.m., on the high bluff overlooking Mobile Bay at Henry George Park in Fairhope. The family welcomes all Terry’s friends in remembering Terry and celebrating his wonderful life.
