ORANGE BEACH, Ala. — The Friends of the Arts and the Orange Beach Arts Center present the works of Cal Breed of Orbix Hot Glass. Breed’s beautiful blown glass will be on display and for sale Feb. 19 through March 31. An artist's reception will be held on Feb 19, from 6-8 p.m. at OBAC.

Breed received a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from Ohio State University. He studied at Haystack School of Crafts and the Pilchuck Glass School, with glass artists Dante Marioni and Lino Tagliapietra.

After years of study, he opened a private studio and gallery in northeast Alabama. In this sanctuary, Breed designs his glass lines. All of his designs pay close attention to proportion, color, purity and form. Each is chosen with specific intention to accentuate details particularly innate to glass.  In a word his glass objects are pure poetry.

Breed received the Corning Foundation Award, Pilchuck Glass School in 2007 and Niche Award Finalist 2004. He comes to the Orange Beach Arts Center from Buyers Market of American Craft in Philadelphia, Pa. He will return to demonstrate his craft at The Hot Shop at the Orange Beach Art Center for the Festival of Arts, March 13-14.
