197th Anniversary of the Battle of Fort Mims will be re-enacted at Fort Mims Aug. 28-29. Event will include period demonstrations, live music, food, vendors and other entertainment.

The Baldwin County Junior Miss 2011 program, "Picture Perfect." Twenty-four Baldwin County senior girls will compete at the program, set for Aug. 28 at Faulkner State Community College’s Performing Arts Center in Bay Minette.

A “Lively” auction to benefit Robertsdale United Methodist Church will be held Aug. 29 at 12:45 p.m. at the church.

The auction features Alabama and Auburn football baskets with tickets to games.

If football is not your thing, there will be a five-night stay at a log cabin in the Smoky Mountains near Townsend Tenn, auctioned as well as  home-baked cakes, a basket filled with home-canned pickles, salsa, jellies, vegetables and more, a steak dinner for four in a private home in Steelwood, a fishing trip for two, cruise for six in the Delta area, hunting trip for two, boat tour for six on Fish River, Weeks Bay, and Magnolia River, floral arrangement from Hub City Florist, bowling games with concession coupons and movie theater tickets. The second annual Fur Ball will be held Saturday, Sept. 4, from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Pensacola Cultural Center, 400 S. Jefferson St. Sponsored by the Jury-Duty Spay & Neuter organization, the event will raise money to fund spay and neuter services for homeless animals in the Pensacola area.

Live music will be by “Malpractice,” a local band composed of physician members, and there will be a live auction, a silent auction, heavy hors d’oeuvres, drawings and a cash bar. Auction preview begins at 6 p.m. Up for bid will be items including a Rolex watch, original art, jewelry and more. Attendees will be invited to cast their votes for the King and Queen of the 2010 Fur Ball, and all are invited to bring a photo of their pets to enter into a contest.

 Blue Mass A special Mass for all emergency responders will be held on September 10, 2010, at 12:10 p.m. at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Mobile.

The Mass is offered yearly on or near “9-11” in remembrance of those who lost their lives in New York City, the Pentagon, and rural Pennsylvania in the 2001 attack.

Community Cleanup Day, hosted by the city of Fairhope, will be held Saturday, Sept. 18, 9.m. To noon, in conjunction with the Alabama Coastal Cleanup. Civic groups, churches, boy/girl scout troops, homeowner associations and/or individuals are invited to call and sign-up to participate.

Ms. Senior Baldwin County Contestants must be Baldwin county residents, age 60 or over, be willing to participate in our pageant. Judging will consist of: interview, poise in an evening gown, philosophy of life, and performing talent. Prior pageant experience is not necessary.

Thomas Hospital 50th Anniversary Homecoming will be held Sunday, Sept. 19, 2-5 p.m. at the hospital on Greeno Road in Fairhope.

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) will hold a grassroots meeting, hosted by The Haven and the Baldwin County Humane Society (BARC!), to connect with area animal advocates on the topic of animal protection, possible legislation and public policy. T

his meeting will be held Sept. 23, 6-8 p.m., at the Fairhope Civic Center.
