Camden trip talk of Bay Minette Senior Center

Posted

Last week was to be our catch-our-breath week; however, due to bus trip of seniors to Camden on the First Baptist Church bus, it was a busy week.

For those who missed the trip to Camden, there is talk of a trip back to Camden at Christmas. Call the First Baptist Church office if interested.

The trip was a full day. The Tour of Homes was enjoyed by all, as those who showed the homes, welcomed us with open arms, followed by a warm welcome by the Mayor at Gaines Ridge and a scrumptious lunch by owner, Betty Kennedy (my long-time friend).

Then we were off for a ferry ride, and across the River to Gee’s Bend to see Bee Gee’s quilting which is part of Alabama Arts Festival. Next, the dam and neat information on lakes and campgrounds, winding down at Black Belt Treasures (pottery making, paper mache and bead work in progress) full of neat displays of crafts and art.

They welcomed us with refreshments. Thanks Ruth for sharing your family with us. Because we were later than planned, a vote was taken to eat at David’s Catfish at Monroeville. You could hear the joy we shared, as you listened to the chatter on the way home.

Hope you made plans for the Selma trip. It promises to be even more exciting. Is it possible?

Highlight of the week at the Senior Center was game time on Thursday at 2 p.m. Always refreshments and games of your choice. Be with us next Thursday. “I don’t know how” is no excuse. Most of us didn’t know how and we are willing to show you how easy it is to learn to play and share with others.

Friday is always a full day at the Senior Center from Art Class , from 9 a.m. to noon; and bridge at 1 p.m. to allow for exercise at 3 p.m.

Fall is here and Winter will follow, let the Senior Center be a part of your week during the Winter months.

The week of Sept. 24 will wind up very busy. From Computer Classes for advanced class from 11 a.m. to noon; and the beginners class on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to noon. Exercise at 3 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, will continue and still looking for an instructor.

Game Day on Thursday at 2 p.m. ending the week with Movie Nite on Sept. 28.

Fellowship at 5 p.m. with hamburgers, potato salad and chips. Movie-of-the-month, “Crazy in Alabama” will begin at 6 p.m. Come and share your opinion or a story you know that makes it crazy in Alabama.

Also, share September birthday cake with us.

Happy Birthday to all September birthdays from the Senior Center and to all those we know: Annie Knowles, 3; Maureen Johnson, Tony Griffin and Mary Frances Stuart, 5 ; Reather Carte, 7; Ann Fisher, 10; Terea Brennan, 16; Tommy Langham, 23; Tony Edwards, 27; Herb Waters, 29; and to all a Happy Birthday (still have time to come and share your birthday with us).

The first week of October, in addition to regular weekly classes and games and exercise, includes NARFE meeting on Monday, at 2 p.m. at the Chamber of Commerce.

Also, at 5 p.m. on Tuesday at the Senior Center will be the monthly Bay Minette Area Senior Citizens Organization meeting. Everyone over 50 is invited — no membership fee. We would appreciate your input, help us to broaden the interest at the Senior Center.

The Senior Center is all about a place to gather with your friends and spend some time with them.

Thought for the week: Let the world know you as you are, not as you think you should be, because sooner or later, if you are posing, you will forget the pose, and then where are you?

May God bless you and keep you until we meet again!!
