DAPHNE, Ala. — Youngsters at Ms. Pat’s Child Development and Learning Center Friday morning held a candle light vigil for four children thrown from a Dauphin Island bridge.

Lam Luong, 37, of Irvington, on Jan. 7 allegedly tossed his four children to their grave in the icy waters below. The bodies of 4-month-old Danny Luong; Ryan Phan, 3; Lindsey Luong, 1; and Hannah Luong, 2 have since been found, authorities said.

Children at the daycare had asked questions about the incident, having seen television reports.

Patricia Reed, parent and ceremony coordinator, said she was speechless when her daughter, Treasure, 3, asked about the tragedy.

“I didn’t know what to tell her; I didn’t know what to tell myself,” she said.

Reed said she wanted the kids to participate in an activity that would ease their fears.

She decided that symbolism of candlelight was appropriate.

“We just did it in the morning while they were all at daycare,” Reed said. “It was something they could understand.”

The children sang “Yes, Jesus Loves Me” and “This Little Light of Mine.” They recited Psalm 23 from the Bible and said a prayer for the deceased children.

“Thank you, Lord, for this day,” they said. “We ask your blessings for the four babies, their mom and their dad and all trying to find them.

“We know that they’re safe in Jesus’ arms.”
