Capt. Ralph H. Sheffield, born Aug. 9, 1929 in Birmingham, died Wednesday, June 15, 2011.
He retired from the U.S. Merchant Marines. He spent 35 years at sea and his wife had the joy of being married to him for 63 years, 32 years of that time in retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Nell C. Sheffield of Foley; two sons, Ralph Sheffield Jr. of Mobile and Sam (Mary Carol) Sheffield of Cartersville, Ga., daughter, Teresa (Doug) Bowling of North Canton, Ohio; grandchildren, Ralph Harrison Sheffield III and Laura-Catherine Sheffield, both of Mobile, Maggie and David Sheffield, both of Cartersville, and Jason Bowling of North Canton.
Visitation begins at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 18 at Mack Funeral Home, Robertsdale, with funeral services at 2 p.m. from the funeral home chapel. Internment will be at 3:30 p.m. at Pine Crest Cemetery, Mobile.
