BON SECOUR, Ala. — The Captain’s Galley restaurant in Bon Secour recently hosted a fundraiser in support of nearby Swift School.
The event was an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner for $6.
The Swift School PTA participated by promoting the event and selling tickets. The Captain’s Galley donated the food.
The Swift School dates back to the early 1900s when the Swift family moved to the area and opened a saw mill with a one room school house for their children and the children of those who worked in the saw mill. It has been a public school since 1916.
The Captain’s Galley is located on County Road 10 on the Bon Secour River. It is a popular restaurant with locals and visitors alike who enjoy the friendly service and the deck overlooking the river. Owners Al and Diane Sawyer also own King Neptune’s restaurant in Gulf Shores.
The Sawyers believe in giving back to their community and supporting local institutions such as schools and fire and police departments.
“We saw this as an opportunity to help Swift School by doing what we love best - cooking great food and serving our guests,” said Al Sawyer.
The spaghetti dinner raised $360 for Swift School. With more than 200 pre-K through fifth grade students currently enrolled, the donation will be a big help to the teachers and staff.
