GULF SHORES, AL - A morning accident in Gulf Shores resulted in a truck crashing into the Arby's restaurant on Alabama 59 on June 5.
Police believe the driver possibly suffered a medical issue which may have caused the crash. The driver was transported to the hospital for medical evaluation and treatment of injuries. A passenger was unhurt.
Police received the call at 6:45 a.m.
There was a large hole in the front right of the building. Gulf Coast Media is trying to reach officials at the store to determine if it will be able to open today.
The accident comes on the heels of similar incidents in neighboring Mobile, Fairhope and Foley. Public Information Officer Charlette Perkins with Mobile Police said a car crashed into the side of a Sonic on Springhill Avenue about 1 p.m. on June 4. Two employees were injured.
On June 3 a Fairhope woman was life-flighted to Mobile after her car ran into a Section Street gas station.
According to eyewitness reports, the woman's car drove into the plate glass window in the front of Rambo's Auto Service, narrowly avoiding the gas pumps.
The collision knocked her out of her car and onto the ground.
No official statement has been released by the authorities on the accident yet, but it is believed the accident may have been caused by a medical condition.
On May 25 a car ran into the front door of the Dollar General in Foley at U.S. 98 and County Road 65. There were no injuries in the incident but the store was is expected to be closed for four weeks so repairs can be made.
“We discovered that a previous incident with a vehicle had damaged and disabled the emergency exit at the rear of the sales floor, and that door had not been repaired,” Darby explained. “With damage to both ingress and egress points, we required them to close for business until the appropriate repairs can be made, per the fire code.”
There is a sign outside that says, "closed until further notice."
