Leonard Vane Carroll Sr., 87, of Bay Minette, died Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at Catherine Place in Daphne.
He was born June 1, 1920 in Newbern, Tenn.
He was a veteran of World War II, where he served on the U.S.S. California as part of a Marine detachment at Iwo Jima and Okinawa. He was also an amateur boxer before and during his military service and an avid life-time golfer.
His early career was as the owner and operator of a stucco and plastering contracting company. He moved his family from Tennessee to Florida due to the abundance of work in the Tampa Bay area. His second career was as a real estate agent where he began in Citrus County, Fla., and eventually moved to Bay Minette, where he retired well into his 70s.
He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Anita Kay Carroll; grandson, Leonard Vane Carroll III; brother Melvin Carroll, and sister, Martha Carroll Price.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Anita Rhyne Carroll of Daphne, formerly of Bay Minette; son, Leonard Vane Carroll Jr., of Panama City, Fla.; and one grandson, Timothy F. Carroll of Destin Fla.
A memorial service will be held at later date.
