DAPHNE, Ala. — As part of the Catholic Church’s 2010 celebration of Catechetical Sunday on Sept. 19, catechists from the preschool- through high-school-age Religious Education program joined with those from the Children’s Liturgy of the Word program at Christ the King Catholic Church to be commissioned during the 8:30 a.m. Liturgy.
Rev. Matthew J. O’Connor, pastor, performed the commissioning and blessed all parents and guardians for their role as the first and foremost teachers of the faith in the lives of their children. During the ceremony, kindergarten catechist Kay Naylor was recognized for her 20 years of service in the religious-education ministry.
Students in kindergarten through eighth-grade classes began a new year of faith education Sept. 12.
High-school students meet weekly for faith sharing and instruction on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 8 as well as on Sunday evenings from 6 to 8. All gatherings are held in the Youth Ministry Lighthouse building located on College Avenue.
Christ the King’s Children’s Liturgy of the Word program is held during the 8:30 a.m. Sunday Mass. Children aged 4 years through the second grade are called forward during the Liturgy to learn about and celebrate God’s Word with catechists leading the way.
