CAZALAS

Peter Jean Cazalas, 62, died Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009 at his home in Daphne.

He was a native of Mobile, attended McGill Institute and the University of South Alabama.

He and his family lived most of their lives in La Place, La., where he was an employee of the parish. He and his wife moved to Daphne in 2003 and quickly became involved in Christ the King Catholic Church, a bridge club, and as volunteer poll workers for election days.

He also sang at the 7 a.m. Sunday Mass at Christ the King and volunteered for the bereavement group. Ever since he was a college student, he was a choir director at every Catholic church he was ever a member of until his retirement in 2003.

He was always kind, grateful and generous to everyone. He loved his family and his two beloved dachshunds. He was an accomplished photographer.

He was especially grateful to his brother, Joe. Even before his wife died, Joe was always willing to help Pete with anything he needed, and often took him to the doctor, even when it meant a trip to New Orleans. He was seven years older than Joe, but loved to rub it in that everyone thought he looked younger.

He was predeceased by his loving wife Nancy just 14 months ago, an 18-year-old daughter Teresa in 1987, his father Ben, brother Ken, and grandson Gabriel Anzalone.

Survivors include three children, Jennifer (Dale) Anzalone of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Bethany (Patrick) Willis of Haynesville, La., and Jonathan (Sahar) Cazalas of Orlando, Fla., 10 grandchildren; his mother, Joelane New Cazalas of Mobile; two brothers, Bob Cazalas of Summerfield, Fla., and Joe Cazalas of Daphne; and two sisters, Mary Jo Denman of Marietta, Ga., and Cindy Cazalas of Fairhope.

A memorial Mass was held Wednesday, Oct. 21 at Christ the King.

He will be missed by all who knew him.
