DAPHNE, Ala. — The third annual Celtic Celebration will be held tomorrow at the Daphne Civic Complex Plaza.
The concert — which is from 2 to 5 p.m. — will feature three acts: Mithril, Red McWilliams and Sweet Prospect.
Tom Morley, of Mithril, had proposed the idea of a Celtic concert, recreation programs Coordinator Megan Matrone said.
“Celtic music is becoming very popular now and we wanted to do something for Daphne,” Morley said.
The genre celebrates Scottish and Irish traditions, according to Matrone.
Mithril — which plays instruments and does not sing — has been together for about five years, Morley said.
“Our job is to try and bring Celtic music to as wide of an audience as possible,” he said.
The Eastern Shore band uses traditional Celtic instruments like the wooden Irish flute, an Irish drum called a bodhran and a Celtic harp that is tuned for each song, Morley said.
“Folks of all ages seem to like it, kids are bouncing around, and grandparents enjoy it too,” Morley said.
Another performer at Sunday’s celebration, Red McWilliams, is an internationally known Celtic musician, Matrone said.
McWilliams especially is known throughout the south and southwest regions and has performed all over the world, Matrone said.
Sweet Prospect, a Pensacola, Fla.-based group, is an acoustic instrumental trio, according to Matrone.
They have taken their musical influences from England, Scotland and Wales, Matrone said.
