ROBERTSDALE, Alabama — Area municipalities will honor four local businesses on Thursday, Jan. 19 with the announcement of the Business of the Year during the Central Baldwin Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Meeting at the Baldwin County Coliseum in Robertsdale.
The awards provide opportunities for municipalities in Central Baldwin to promote local business as the lifeblood of the communities.
For the Chamber’s 35th anniversary last year, the City of Robertsdale honored Mack Funeral Home with its Business of the Year Award. Founder Huey Mack Sr. was also one of the founding members of the Chamber.
“Local business is the mainstay of any economy and what employs the bulk of people in a great nation,” said Robertsdale Mayor Charles Murphy. “We are fortunate here in Central Baldwin County to have so many great local businesses .”
The Town of Loxley honored Day Break Mart with the 2010 award.
“Just like any other community, we can’t operate without our local businesses ,” said Loxley Mayor Billy Middleton. “We appreciate all our local business and hope to gain more of a diversity of local business in the future.”
Silverhill’s 2010 Business of the Year Award was the Silverhill Food Mart, a newly restored business which operated in the town for many years as The Station.
“Our local businesses provide a great asset to the town and it’s important that we have a diversity of businesses to provide services to our residents ,” said Silverhill Mayor Tim Wilson. “It’s important that we have a business like Silverhill Food Mart to provide that service to the town, and a local restaurant like Mom and Pop’s and a bank like United Bank, along with the attorneys, tax businesses and others who provide a variety of services.”
Summerdale honored its newest business, Tractor Supply Co., in 2010.
“Without (local businesses) we could not function as a town,” said Summerdale Mayor David Wilson. “Anytime we can help promote a local business, especially a business that is just starting up, we want to take that opportunity.”
