ROBERTSDALE, Ala. While the school district may have had to stop honoring “Teachers of the Year” because of budget constraints, the Central Baldwin Education Foundation honored teachers from all of its “feeder pattern” schools. The honorees were: Robin Isherwood, Robertsdale High; Amy Owens, Rosinton Elementary School; Kim Carnley, Robertsdale Elementary; Robin Davis, Central Baldwin Middle School; Chesley Harrison, Elsanor Elementary; Cynthia Munger, Loxley Elementary; and Becky O’Brian, Silverhill Elementary.

“We are honoring the best of the best,” said Brenda Pierce, CBEF vice president.

Each school principal or a designee got up to say a few words about their school’s honoree.

For example, Charles Downey, principal of Robertsdale Elementary School said that Carnley is “A great teacher, a leader.” He mentioned that Carnley has earned grant money for the school and is “leading the charge.”

CBMS Principal Mike Vivar could not be at the banquet, but Assistant Principal Mike Dawkins presented the middle school’s “Teacher of the Year,” Robin Davis.

“Robin Davis has been teaching for 33 years,” said Dawkins, “So have I,” he continued, “but she’s handled it so much better.”

Dawkins went on to praise Davis’ dedication and her presence in the school.

“She’s always in the hallway during class changes. She never loses her composure,” Dawkins said. ”We appreciate you at Central Baldwin Middle School.”

Principal Susan Runnels introduced her school honoree, Chesley Harrison by commenting on her relative youth, saying that Harrison “looks full grown, but isn’t yet.” Harrison started at Foley High, but Runnels was able to scoop up the teacher who had “rave reviews.”

“She knows how to work,” said Runnels.

RHS Principal Theresa Bryant introduced Assistant Band Director Robin Isherwood by saying she was, “truly a teacher’s teacher.” Bryant added that Isherwood has had an award-wining percussion section and helped start the “Winter Guard” band program.

Dee Ann Ramey of Loxley Elementary said that she and Cynthia Munger “Started together” at LES, and that Munger “beats me to school every day.” Munger, she added, is a “calming force in the school.”

Becky O’Brian, said Silverhill principal Cathy Rogers, is “Full steam ahead.” The mother of triplets, Rogers said that the Silverhill staff is looking forward to welcoming the youngsters to their school.

“She mentors the other kindergarten teachers,” said Rogers.

“Amy Owens had a lot to live up to,” said Teresa Hardin, principal of Rosinton Elementary. “She was an exceptional teacher in Elberta.” Hardin added that Owens was one of the founders of the “S.M.A.R.T” program at the school (S.M.A. R. T. stands for self-control, motivated, alert, respectful and trustworthy.)

“This is the first of many events to come,” said Pierce.
