Central Christian Saints kick off soccer season

ROBERTSDALE, Alabama - When the Central Christian boys soccer team hits the field for their first game of the fall season they do it with the expectations of having another great season and defend their conference title from a season ago.

With the season getting started on Friday with a long road trip to Lagrange Academy in Lagrange, Ga. coach Dan Crotts expects his team to score a lot of goals this upcoming season.

“I am very excited about this year,” Crotts said. “We are rebuilding on the defensive side of the ball, even though we have our senior goalie back, we are replacing three defenders.”

Overall the Saints return five starters on the team that are going to be expected to lead the Saints to many victories in the 2012 season.

“We have a gentleman coming back this season who played at Spanish Fort last year, Justin McCarty he is one of our strikers he will play up front for us and I expect some big things from him.”

Another player to look out for this season for the Saints will be a returning conference tournament most valuable player Timmy Shelton.

“He was a midfielder for us last year,” Crotts said. “He will be playing streaker for us this season.”

The saints have some lofty goals this season just like any year and coach Crotts goal is to win it all again this season.

“We want to defend our conference title this year,” Crotts said. “We won it last year and we want to defend our title this year. That’s the big goal for the year.”

On Friday the Saints begin the season by playing Lagrange Academy and then the following day they match against another tough opponent in Trinity. Central Christian plays at Lighthouse Academy today at 4 p.m. and plays in the East/West Challenge in Fort Walton, Fla. on Friday and Saturday. The Saints return home for a game against East Hill Academy on Aug. 28 at 4:30 p.m.
