DAPHNE, Ala. — This Sept. 11 the students, teachers and staff of Daphne Elementary School, along with the community, will share in remembering the events of seven years ago by participating in a special flag rising at 8:15 a.m. on that Thursday.
The flag is a gift from soldiers stationed at Camp Striker, Iraq. It is their way of thanking the students of Baldwin County for sending Christmas cards of hope, joy and heartfelt thanks during the 2007 holiday season.
Students and the community are encouraged to participate in the celebration by submitting a quote or essay about “What Liberty Means to Me.”
These writings will be displayed in the school’s newly remodeled auditorium and the students honored from second and third grade will read their work during the flag ceremony.
All girls and boy scouts are being encouraged to wear their uniforms while other children are being asked to dress in red, white and blue.
Community participants are also encouraged to dress accordingly.
