BAY MINETTE – When adult runners finish the 10-kilometer jaunt through downtown Bay Minette next weekend, they will be able to enjoy a cold adult beverage.
The second and third legs of the Chamber Chase will include beer at the finish line. The 10K run series is sponsored by the North Baldwin Chamber of Commerce.
“We will be giving the beer to registered participants over the age of 21 after the completion of the 10K. We will not be selling any beer, as it is included in the registration price,” chamber Marketing and Project Manager Ashley Jones said in her written request to the Bay Minette City Council. “We have been advised by experienced runners that receiving a beer after an organized run is very common in the running world and will draw more participation to our event.”
Jones added that the beer will be in aluminum cans, which will be recycled.
There was little discussion on the matter during the council’s work session last week.
“As a runner and beer drinker, do you see a problem?” Mayor Bob Wills asked city attorney Scotty Lewis.
“I’ll take the fifth,” Lewis said, jokingly.
