Wanted: leaders who can present a dynamic, fun, fast-paced workshop that helps seventh-graders see the importance of their personal choices in life, now and in the future.
The Eastem Shore Chamber of Commerce is seeking volunteers to present the CHOICES program to all seventh-graders in Eastern Shore area schools. CHOICES focuses on academic self-discipline, time and money management and goal setting.
Business and community volunteers deliver three CHOICES workshops per school year. A workshop consists of two 50-minute class periods delivered on two consecutive days. A detailed plan and activities help the students understand each section. The plan is flexible so each volunteer can add personality and experiences to the program.
Volunteers can help teens face the resulting situation that would occur if, for instance, they dropped out of school. CHOICES asks students what they are doing about their future now and what they plan to do about it in high school.
Also, students learn about their local business community through volunteers’ participation.
All presenters will get training and receive a kit with a course guide, activity props, transparencies and handouts. Add your own spin to it and you’re ready to go.
If this sounds like something you would like to do, contact CHOICES Program Manager Kathie Barton, communications manager, Eastern Shore Chamber of Commerce, at 928-6387.
