Elsie Adeline Sutton Chandler, 99, a long-time resident of Silverhill, died Sunday, June 14 at a local health care center.
She and her husband owned and operated the People Supply Company, a general store in Silverhill, for many years; she served as a librarian at the Silverhill library for more than 50 years; was recognized as state’s oldest librarian, and her dedication to the library, naming the children’s library for her; and was an active member of the Silverhill Covenant Church where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and worked on the hospitality committee.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bennett and Adelaid Sutton; four brothers and seven sisters; her husband, Leslie Chandler; and a daughter, Thelma “Plu” Tribble.
Survivors include her son, Sidney Chandler of Silverhill; six grandchildren, Marilyn Brown, Cynthia Lyndall, Terri Cordova, Bryan Chandler, Kenyon Tribble and Chandler Tribble; nine great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, June 19 at the Silverhill Covenant Church.
