Charles Bernard Ingersoll, of Fairhope, Ala., passed away Sept. 6, 2015 surrounded by his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Sadie Ingersoll; and his brother, Glen William Ingersoll.
He is survived by his wife of almost 65 years, Mary Ann Ingersoll; and his children, Cindy (John) Marshall, Sandy (Mike) Hayes, David (Andrea) Ingersoll and Steve (Ava) Ingersoll. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jacob (Brandi) Ingersoll, Adam (Kelsey) Ingersoll, Courtney Marshall, Brooke Ingersoll, Heather (Travis) Darden, Tim (Christy) Kidd, Jerad Hayes and Audre Ingersoll; and great-grandchildren, Andrew, Marian and Kayla Ingersoll, Brylee, Ayden and Cohen Ingersoll. He is also survived by his sister, Millie (Billy) Stephens; sister-in-law, Helen Ingersoll; their children and other relatives and friends.
A lifelong native, Charlie was born Oct. 5, 1931 in downtown Fairhope. During his almost 84 years of living in Fairhope, he saw and was an influential part of many changes in the town he loved. After spending his childhood in Fairhope, he became a partner in the Ingersoll All Jersey Dairy and eventually bought and operated the Fairhope Laundry and Cleaners.
He was an active member of the Fairhope Single Tax Corp. and served as President for 16 years.
Charlie was also an active member of the First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, Sunday school department director and on numerous committees through the years.
In his spare time, Charlie could be found out sailing on the bay and was known for his custom built sailboat, “The Mr. Jeffcott,” which he built with his friend Dennis Byrne and sailing buddy, Robert Jeffcott.
Charlie met monthly with friends from his 1950 high school graduating class, the ”Nifty Fifty,” until the time of his death.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2015 at First Baptist Church of Fairhope.
The family will begin receiving friends at noon.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorial be made to St Jude Children’s Hospital or Samaritan’s Purse.
