Charles C. “Charlie” Deits, 80, of Foley departed this world on Nov. 3, 2011. He was the last surviving member of the Bruce and Gertrude Deits family of Pellston, Mich.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, the former Josephine Sheldon of Alanson, Mich.; daughter Shelda Deits of Gulf Shores; son Roderic Deits of Talladega; daughter, Julina Cordova of Foley; grandsons Frankie and Hayden of Foley; and granddaughter, Sara of Des Moines, Iowa.
Charles was born in 1931 and entered the military service at age 15, serving from 1946 to 1970 and retiring from the U.S. Air Force as a Chief Master Sergeant, having served in Japan, Korea, Alaska, Canada and numerous stateside locations.
Subsequent careers included the farm implement business, real estate broker and the manufactured home business.
He was a Charter Member of the WWII Museum in New Orleans, a member of VUMS (Veterans of Underage Military Service) and numerous other veteran’s organizations.
He was a member of the New Life in Christ Church in Foley for 22 years.
A funeral service with full military honors conducted by Pastor Paul Wilde and the United States Air Force will be held at Pine Rest Funeral Home on Monday, November 7, 2011 with burial in Pine Rest Memorial Park, Foley.
