James Simon Chavis, 89, a native of Florala and a resident of Foley, died Friday, March 28, 2008.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Elizabeth Melton Chavis of Foley; two sons, James Simon Chavis Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla., and Glenn Chavis of Houston, Fla.; daughter, Trisha Chavis Roelike of Pompano Beach, Fla.; sister, Lenora Worth of Tampa, Fla.; three brothers, Walker Chavis of Florala, Melvin Chavis of Magnolia Springs and William Chavis of Foley; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held Sunday, March 30 at Pine Rest Funeral Home. Private burial services will be held Monday, March 31 at the Magnolia Mausoleum, Pine Rest Memorial Park, Foley.
The family requests memorial donations be made to Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, New York, NY 10018.
