(BPT) - Developing healthier habits can begin with small, achievable steps that drive momentum toward eating well, being physically active and making the best choices for one’s overall wellness. More and more, people are turning to mobile applications as one-stop, readily-accessible resources to support their health and wellness goals. Today, nearly 46 million Americans currently use a mobile application like a fitness tracker or a calorie counter.[i] Available via iTunes and Google Play for people living with type 2 diabetes, the INVOKANA® (canagliflozin) Check Your Numbers healthy habits tracker application combines tools like medication, blood sugar and exercise trackers with encouraging tips to serve as a wellness partner—making staying motivated while managing type 2 diabetes easier to accomplish.
INVOKANA® is a once-daily oral therapy used along with diet and exercise to lower blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes. INVOKANA® has been proven to significantly lower A1C in adults with type 2 diabetes. In most clinical trials, the majority of people taking INVOKANA® reached an A1C goal of less than 7.0, a goal recommended by the American Diabetes Association. INVOKANA® works with the kidneys to help adults with type 2 diabetes lose some sugar through the process of urination. Although it’s not for weight loss or blood pressure management, in clinical trials INVOKANA® was also shown to reduce body weight and systolic blood pressure, and was generally well tolerated. The most common side effects of INVOKANA® include genital yeast infections, urinary tract infection, and changes in urination.[ii]
The Check Your Numbers application was developed with support and feedback from real patients like Adam, who realized the benefits of the on-the-go resource in helping manage his type 2 diabetes.
“Like many, I have a busy lifestyle that sometimes makes managing my type 2 diabetes feel like a chore,” Adam said. “My phone is always less than an arm’s length away, so being able to set medication reminders and log my food choices, physical activity and blood glucose levels instantly makes a difference for me.”
For Adam, Check Your Numbers helps reinforce the importance of a healthy lifestyle in improving control over one’s diabetes with tracking features, including:
“The app acts like a digital diary that gives me a better view of my whole health—providing all of the necessary information right at my fingertips—and showcases my successes and areas for improvement really well,” Adam continued. “The tools help me make informed wellness choices that both my doctor and I appreciate.”
