Chiefs drop division pair to LBW

BAY MINETTE, Ala.—Lurleen B. Wallace swept two from the Sun Chiefs Friday  9-6 and 7-3 in Alabama Community College Conference South Division play at Faulkner State.

Two 3-run innings helped put the Saints ahead and beyond catching in game two. Jake Bracewell went six innings for the LBW win. He allowed 1 earned run on 4 hits, 5 strikeouts and 2 walks. Harrison Morris gave up a hit and a run in closing the seventh for LBW.

Kyle Mosley led at the plate with 3 hits and scored 3 runs. Brandon Cobb and Trey McMillian added 2 hits each. Cobb had 3 RBIs. Darius Baldwin had a hit and Gunner Hendrix of Spanish Fort had a hit and an RBI. 

In the opener, Rush Hixon scattered 10 hits and 5 runs (5 earned) over seven innings for the road win. He was aided with an initial 4-run lead from his hitters in the top of the first inning. Amd five more including a home-run each from McMillian and Mason Rogers. Rogers finished one shy of the cycle with a triple and a double for 3 RBIs. He also had a stolen base and scored 3 runs. Tyler Johnson drove in 2 runs on a double and a single. Mosley was 2-for-3 and scored a run. Matthew Jones added a hit, drew a walk and scored twice. Hendrix also singled in game one.

The Saints improved to 16-10 and will host Enterprise (7-13) April 2 in a noon-starting double header (weather permitting). LBW is in second place behind Chattahoochee Valley (21-8-1) in the South Division standings.

The Sun Chiefs fell to 9-12, 2-4 and are scheduled to travel to Wallace-Selma (18-12) for a March 31 DH. The Sun Chiefs are then set to host Wallace-Selma Saturday for a DH at FSCC ‘s James Field (1 p.m. start—weather permitting).
