FOLEY, Ala. — Four people have been arrested on drug charges and endangering a child.
According to Maj. Anthony Lowery, chief investigator with the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, deputies responded to a home in the 1,500 block of U.S. Highway 98 in Foley in reference to a welfare concern investigation on a tip of a possible meth lab with children present.
“Residents Eric and Amanda Wells were contacted, and granted consent to search the residence,” he said, “during which time a recently active meth lab was discovered inside the home.
Lowery explained that John Cox, Holly Ethridge, and a 4-year-old girl were also inside the residence at this time. Confessions were obtained from the adult subjects regarding the manufacturing, and the child was taken to South Baldwin Regional Medical Center for further evaluation.
Lowery said that investigators came on the scene and processed the evidence.
“DHR also responded to South Baldwin, and custody of the juvenile was turned over to her grandmother,” Lowery said. “A drug screening of the child showed that she had methamphetamine in her system.”
Amanda Wells, 28, was found to have active warrants, and all four adults were arrested for the various listed charges. She is in custody at the Baldwin County Corrections Center in Bay Minette on felony charges of possession of a controlled substance and chemical endangerment of a child, and misdemeanor charges of traffic charge, detainer for hold and possession of drug paraphernalia. She is being held with no bond.
Eric Wells, also 28, is in the BCCC with a $38,000 bond on felony charges of first degree manufacture of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and chemical endangerment of a child, and misdemeanor tampering with physical evidence and possession of drug paraphernalia.
John Cox, 49, who has a Hernando, Miss., address is in custody at BCCC on a $36,000 bond for felony charges of first-degree manufacture of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and chemical endangerment of a child, and a misdemeanor charges of possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to Lowery, Holly Ethridge was charged with chemical endangerment of a child, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Her bond amounts totaled $11,000.
