DAPHNE, Ala. — Two authors will visit the Daphne Public Library during its annual Spring into Reading celebration.

Sheila Alberstadt, author of “Maggie McNair has Spiders in her Hair,” will visit the library for a book signing. In the book, Maggie hates to brush her hair and refuses to; until one day, she finds a spider in her hair.

Also, meet Ilene Baskette, author of the Boat House Buddies series of children’s books. In each book from this series, children and animals work together to understand the recent Gulf oil spill.  Children will relate to stories concerning this topic of local news stories.

The authors will visit for Once Upon a Time at The Daphne Public Library on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is a free family event open to the public and sponsored by the Friends of the Daphne Library.   Many other attractions include book characters, the Daphne fire truck, the Daphne D.A.R.E. police car, the Chick-Fil-A Cow, rescue dogs, a bunny, The Spinning Lady, representatives from the Five Rivers: Alabama’s Delta Resource Center, and animals from The Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo, home of Animal Planet’s The Little Zoo That Could. There will be a dance troupe from k.b.danz, Trail Maids and Junior Miss Maids, a clown making balloon animals, games, prizes, crafts, temporary tattoos, and a show by Dr. Gee and Daffodil.

Attendees can enjoy free hot dogs sponsored by Daphne Utilities and free snow cones sponsored by Daphne’s Public Works Department.

Art and poetry entries will be on display from Eastern Shore schools and homeschoolers in kindergarten through 12th grade.

Daphne Mayor Fred Small will present the winners of the poetry contest with ribbons as they read their winning entries.
