Paul A. Childress Jr., 76, a native of Baldwin County and resident of Loxley, died Saturday, May 31, 2008.
He was a lifelong farmer and cattleman owing and operating the largest independent dairy farm in Alabama during the 1970’s. He was also an avid hunter and conservationist.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Joy Bill Childress of Loxley; two daughters, C. Kay (Mike) Wagner of St. Francisville, La., and Holly A. (Mark) Crawford of Loxley; four sons, Paul A. (Brenda) Childress III, Harry B (Sharon) Childress, Troy D. (Jennifer) all of Loxley and Charles A. “Chuck” Childress of Summerdale; two brothers, Johnny Childress of Seminole and Aaron Childress of Rosinton; 18 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 4 at Mack Funeral Home with the Rev Earl Lee and Chaplain Willie Smith officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery in Loxley.
Pallbearers were Troy Justin Childress, Michael T. Wagner Jr., Cody Mason Crawford, Paul A. Childress, IV, Charles Aaron "Chase" Childress Jr., Chad Cullen Childress, Colby Nathaniel McMahon and Zachary Mack Crawford. Honorary pallbearers were Harry B. Childress Jr., Frankie Wallace, Gary Zylstra, Dewayne Furguson and Matt Joshua Childress.
The famly requests memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 19059 Greeno Road Suite A, Fairhope, AL 36532 or to Covenant Hospice, 1040 Stanton Road Suite D, Daphne, AL 36526.
