As an all-volunteer service organization, the Christian Service Center is fortunate to count Toni Turner among its members. She comes to us from the First Presbyterian Church of Gulf Shores where she first heard about the Center and has been volunteering at least four times a month, often more, for almost 10 years now Beginning her volunteer work sorting and stocking shelves at the food pantry, she now works as an administrative assistant at the Center. Her work as an administrative assistant means she is the first person people needing assistance see and she works hard to welcome them and make them feel comfortable. She says working to help solve other people’s problems keeps your own in perspective.
Toni and her husband, Phil settled in Bon Secour 16 years ago. She worked as a decorator then and still does occasionally but her happiest times were those spent teaching kindergarten. She says there is no better feeling than to see a small face light up when understanding registers.
The Turners have two daughters who live close by allowing them to enjoy their company as well as that of their eight grandchildren. When she has some spare time, Toni is an avid reader and book club member. She is also a talented water colorist and enjoys sailing on their boat to such distant ports as the Bahamas, Guatemala and Honduras’ Roatan Island.
So, we here at the Christian Service Center, thank Toni Turner for her years of service and wonderful out-look on life and realize how lucky we are to have her with us.
