ROBERTSDALE, Ala. — What do Elvis, Santa, Alabama, Auburn and Saints football items, alligators, arm-wrestling policemen, arts and crafts and down home Southern food have in common?
They will all be at the Sixth Annual Robertsdale Christmas Bazaar on Saturday, November 13 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the PZK Civic Center in Robertsdale.
Admission is free, said Jim and Lura Jones, event coordinators, and this is the biggest fundraiser for the George P. Thames Senior Center in Robertsdale. “Sarah Duncan, Mayor Murphy and everyone at the City of Robertsdale has done so much for the senior center and we just wanted to do something for them to show our appreciation.”
Raising almost $1,600 last year, Jones said his goal this year is $3,000 and hopes to have a large crowd attend.” All the money raised goes toward funding activities at the senior center. We have such an active and fun group and this money really allows us and Sarah to plan out all our trips and activities.”
There will be 30 plus vendors with a multitude of items for every taste including purses, knives, jewelry, tupperware, dolls, scrapbooking items, hats, pillows. embroidery, candles, makeup, jams and jellies, Island Styles will have braids and hair wraps, Denise Boyd with massage therapy, The Bake Shoppe cafe with pies and cookies, quilts and towels and much more.
In addition, there will be all kinds of carnival games outside for 50 cents, pictures with Santa and a drawing for great door prizes by local merchants every 15 minutes, Jones said. Tickets for the door prizes are $1 or $6 for five.
“All vendors will donate a door prize plus many local businesses have donated gift certificates to be used as well,” Jones said.
Hot dogs and sausage dogs donated by Zeigler plus all kinds of baked goods will be available from Aunt Roberta’s kitchen concession stand for a small charge, Jones said, and you can buy a cup of coffee and three cookies for a $1 and a get a free ticket. Greer’s and Coca-cola also donated items for the concession stand.
From 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. there will be a Silent Auction with lots of unique items from the University of Alabama, Nick’s Kids ( Nick Saban foundation), Auburn University, University of South Alabama, New Orleans Saints, Senator Jeff Sessions and Richard Shelby, Congressman and Mrs. Jo Bonner, Hope’s Cheesecake, Nell Callaway, LA Bar-B-Q, Hair Hut, Suds Salon, Sea Breeze, Capella, Trends, Trax Tires, Jewel Campbell and her elves.
There is a full schedule of entertainment:
9 a.m.- Wes Moore from Alligator Alley, who will have a live alligator there on display,
10 a.m.- “Long Arm of the Law”- an arm-wrestling contest between Baldwin County Law Enforcement Officers
10:30 a.m.- Rockin-ettes- Senior Citizen dance team
11:00 a.m.- Elvis (Foley High School Assistant Principal Shane Tucker)
12 p.m.- Elsanor Elementary School Pride Club- singing Christmas carols
1 p.m.- Green Acres School of Dance
1:30 p.m.- Queen of the Bazaar Contest- one of the active ladies from the senior center will be crowned
2 p.m.- End of the silent auction and winners announced
“We are still looking for volunteers and vendors. Tables are available at a charge of $35 for one, $45 for two, $60 for three and there is a discount if you bring your own, Tables outside are $20,” Jones said.
