Christmas by the Bay helps bring joy to our furry friends

FAIRHOPE, Ala. — Homeless animals abound here, but fortunately so do volunteer agencies willing to lend a hand. One of those is the Baldwin County Humane Society, a group that works daily to help control the pet population through spaying and neutering programs while at the same time matching animals with their new human soul mates.

Stephen Savage, executive director of the nonprofit, said others have an opportunity to help as well by taking part in an upcoming fundraiser. Christmas By The Bay 2015 is an evening of great food, live entertainment and a silent auction, as well as other excitement.

It all happens Thursday, Nov. 19, from 6 until 9 p.m. at the Fairhope Civic Center.

“We have a super silent auction, with lots of great stuff,” said Savage. Fairhope Brewing Co., Southern Napa and Rae’s Catering will add a bit of flavor to the event and music will complete the menu.

Roman Street will headline the night. Brothers Noah and Josh Thompson put their guitars together to form the group. Since their college years, this brotherly jam session has developed into a Billboard/iTunes charting band many have dubbed “the next generation” of jazz fusion.

Roman Street, named for an old roman street in the Alps, is an internationally trained instrumental band specializing in improvisational fusion of classical, gypsy and contemporary jazz, Latin and nuevo flamenco.

An exciting feature of Christmas by the Bay for the second year is Rescues on the Runway. Some of Baldwin County’s most charming, pretty, handsome and adoptable pups and cats from adoption groups and shelters across the county will make their debut that night. Some will be adorned for the very special occasion.

Jim Cox, a “man about town,” will again be the emcee this year. Jim is a board member and supporter of the Baldwin County Humane Society through his wine store, Southern Napa, and his marketing company, Wahoo Productions. Jim is also the television host of high school football coverage on UTV 44.

Tickets are $40 each, and available online for an additional $2.39 service fee at baldwinhumane.brownpapertickets.com, or at the Humane Society office, 22886 U.S. Hwy. 98 in Fairhope.

“It’s an event that helps the Baldwin County Humane Society so we can help animals in need,” Savage said. The organization has around 12 dogs and 30 cats in residence at their facility, all waiting on their forever homes.

Established in 1979, the Baldwin County Humane Society is the only animal welfare organization serving all of Baldwin County. The group is volunteer-driven and relies solely on donations and grants to provide its many services.

With the generosity of the community they were able to have 2,270 dogs and cats spayed or neutered and find forever homes for 240 last year.

This event will help provide for hundreds of animals in need.
