Christmas tree recycling starts this week in South Baldwin

FOLEY — Now that all the presents have been opened and all the carols have been sung, some of those live Christmas trees may soon look a little peaked. That’s where Baldwin County’s Christmas Tree Recycling Program comes in.

The program kicks off Thursday and lasts until Jan. 14. In South Baldwin, all residents need to do is remove decorations from their live tannenbaums and recycle them instead of tossing them in the trash. According to Baldwin County Public Information Coordinator Paula Tillman, those recycled trees will be turned into compost.

“Baldwin County compost will be available for sale at the Magnolia Landfill for $25 per ton,” she said via email.

South Baldwin residents can recycle their Christmas trees by bringing them to Magnolia Landfill, located at 15140 County Road 49 in Summerdale, or the Foley Satellite Courthouse, located at 201 E. Section Ave., in Foley.
