ROBERTSDALE, Ala. — It’s Cinco de Mayo time and the Baldwin County Association of Realtors are celebrating in style with their First Annual Gumbo Cookoff on Thursday, May 5 from 5-9 p.m. at the BCAR Board office in Robertsdale.
Sponsored by the Affiliate Council as a fundraiser form the programs they support, the cookoff will feature 8 teams of four people each and tickets are $10 a person or $15 a couple. There will be an open bar with a $2 donation for tickets and a pinata full of great surprises, said Martha Taylor, BCAR spokesperson.
The entry fee for each team is $100 and gumbo needs to be prepared in advance off site and each team is responsible for all food items, decorations, extension cords. At least four gallons must be prepared to be distributed. Tables, bowls, spoons, paper towels and gloves will be provided by BCAR.
Each team will have a booth and can decorate it with a theme of their choice and wear a costume if they choose. Judging will begin at 6 p.m. and teams can compete for first ($100) second ($50) and third ($25) place prizes and for Peoples’ Choice and Best Booth prizes.
Judges for the event are Kathy Jumper and David Holloway from the Mobile Press-Register and Ed Bushaw from Faulkner State Community College Culinary School.
