DAPHNE, Ala.—Madison Hedge, of Daphne East Elementary School, and Gavin Clinge, of W.J. Carroll Intermediate School, were honored Monday night for their 2010 Arbor Day posters.
The two sixth-graders were the Daphne winners for the state 2010 Arbor Day poster competition, Public Works Director Richard Johnson said.
Hedge and Klinge received their posters from Daphne Mayor Fred Small.
Small also read a proclamation that recognizes the city as a “Tree City, USA” by the National Arbor Day Foundation and announced Feb. 26 as Arbor Day in the city.
The proclamation declares the day to “urge all citizens to plant trees, and to support the efforts to protect our trees and woodlands for this and future generations."
