FAIRHOPE, Ala. — The Fairhope Museum of History is hosting a Round-Up Day celebration on Nov. 15, 6-9 p.m.
In 2008, Fairhope Mayor Tim Kant declared Nov.15 “Round-Up Day,” the official day to celebrate Fairhope’s founding each year. Nov. 15 was chosen because it was on that day E.B. Gaston and the first settlers arrived on the Eastern Shore and called it Camp Fairhope.
Round-Up Day is a period dress party.
“Wear anything out of your grandmother’s trunk or something she would have worn in the kitchen. Men can wear a plain suit or coveralls, a T-shirt and a straw hat, anything goes as long as you can do the jig in it,” said Museum Director Donnie Barrett.
The afternoon will be full of entertainment. Kracker Dan, an old-fashioned, ho-down style band, will be playing authentic period music for the crowd.
“We have lots of fun and exciting things planned. We are having a museum scavenger hunt that will last throughout the evening. It will be a real test of Fairhope knowledge and history,” said Barrett.
The celebration is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be provided by the city of Fairhope.
