Foley police officers made 74 misdemeanor arrests in May and five felony arrests. That information was given by Deputy Chief Randy Bishop this week as several Foley departments made monthly reports to the city council.
Bishop also reported that 83 misdemeanor warrants were served last month and 13 felony warrants. Officers made 26 DUI arrests, wrote 502 traffic citations, 520 warnings and conducted 885 close patrols of properties.
Officers worked 66 motor vehicle accidents and assisted motorists 135 times. Officers also answered 120 alarms in May, made 181 positive citizen contacts and made 162 official business visits.
Bishop reported FPD made 15 misdemeanor marijuana arrests, 47 controlled substance arrests, eight drug paraphernalia arrests, and conducted one drug raid/search warrant.
FPD’s Criminial Investigative Division received 49 news cases in May and solved 23 cases. Among those cases solved were 10 felonies.
Foley City Jail processed 293 arrestees in May. The highest number in jail at one time during May was 41, the lowest 21.
FPD’s Mounted Unit conducted one patrol during the month and attended one community event.
Animal Services had 47 calls for service during the month, according to Bishop.
Fire Chief Joey Darby reported that the Fire Department had a total of 78 incidents in May, 44 percent of those involving motor vehicle accidents. He attributed that to the increased traffic flow with the beginning of summer.
He also noted firefighters responded to five fires involving buildings, but said none of those fires resulted in loss of life nor were any a total loss.
Darby told the council that his department responded to 10 unauthorized burnings in May.
City Planner Miriam Boutwell reported that the City Building/Inspections Department issued a total of 80 permits last month at a total construction valuation of $1,744,484. Nine of those permits were for single family residences.
She reported that Environmental/Code Enforcement handled 90 complaints and made nine environmental inspections.
City inspectors made 281 inspections in May.
