DAPHNE, Ala.—So you’re new to the city and would like to volunteer but aren’t sure whom to talk to or how to go about signing up.
Or you’re retired but feel you can still offer the community your services but don’t know how to volunteer.
Meet Pat Wilden.
As the city’s new volunteer coordinator, Wilden organizes interested volunteers and helps them find a position that best fits each individual’s skill set.
The unpaid position’s description includes fundraising, creating community service programs, promoting gift giving and formulating informational programs in support of the city.
One of her main functions is to serve as a public-relations officer, promoting the city to various organizations and civic groups.
“I’m talking up Daphne, everywhere I go,” she said.
Wilden—who grew up in Mobile—has many projects planned, including redecorating the atrium at City Hall. She’d also like to coordinate a guided open house of the new government building.
“I’d like it to be during the day,” she said, “so guests can visit each of the departments, which would be closed off at night.”
