FAIRHOPE, Ala. — The city of Fairhope will celebrate Arbor Day on Saturday, Feb. 28, from 9 a.m. until noon, at the Faulkner State Community College Campus.

There will be a beautification awards ceremony at 9 a.m. in Centennial Hall, and the tree seedling give away will follow from 10 a.m. to noon, or as long as supplies last. Displays and plant materials will also be for sale from local merchants beginning at 10.

Each year the Fairhope Tree Committee selects individual or local businesses to recognize for exceptional landscape, landscape design, environmental stewardship or building design. This year three awards will be given. The following local businesses will be recognized are Walcott Adams Vernuielle Architects, Dr. Craig Peterson and Jade Consulting during the 9 a.m. awards ceremony.

The Wisteria Garden Club, Boy Scout Troop 47 and local master gardeners will be assisting with the tree seedling give away. Seedlings available this year will include the following: pignut hickory, fringetree, silky dogwood, strawberry bush or hearts-a-bustin, green ash, American snowbell, swamp tupelo, white oak, turkey oak, yaupon holly, American hornbeam, and pawpaw.

Residents are also encouraged to celebrate Arbor Day by hitting one of the Fairhope Tree Trails: These trails would be a great outing for those who are interested in exploring Fairhope and admiring her beauty. Fairhope trails consist of the Beach Park trail at the Fairhope Municipal Pier and park, the Marrietta Johnson tree trail on Faulkner’s campus.

Fairhope also has several state champions along theses trails. You can pick-up infomraiton on the tree trails at Welcome Center, City Hall or at the City warehouse.
