Classic Rock 5K coming March 6

DAPHNE, Ala. — Olde Towne Daphne is set to rock and roll on Saturday morning, March 6, when runners from throughout the area join Daphne students, teachers and parents at Daphne City Hall for the 6th annual Classic Rock 5K and Fun Run.

The new venue — featuring live classic rock and children’s activities — should provide an exciting start and finish for both races, according to an event spokesperson. The 3.1-mile main event gets under way at 8 a.m. and the newly certified 1-mile fun run starts at 9 a.m.

Registration is taking place now on all five Daphne public school campuses and at Christ the King Catholic School. Race forms are available at local fitness centers and at seedsindaphne.org. Online registration is available through www.active.com.

Top runners will receive Museum Shop gift items from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame when awards are presented at 9:30 a.m. A Vote Yes pep rally to build awareness for the March 23 referendum will round out the morning.

Students, parents and teachers who register for the race at school through    Feb. 12 will be counted in the homeroom competition for a Classic Rock Party to be held later in the spring.

Family members registering with a Daphne student may enter the 5K for only $15 (regular registration is $18) and all Fun Run registrations are $10. (School program 5K registrants may participate in the Fun Run with their children for free.)

One dollar of each race registration collected through the 2010 Classic Rock School Program will be donated to the participating student's school.  All other proceeds go to SEEDS’ Classroom Grant Program that has provided more than$121,000 for instructional improvements in the Daphne schools since 2005.

Those registering through their child’s homeroom by Feb. 12 will receive their Classic Rock T-shirts at school on March 4-5.  All other race packets will be picked up on race day from 7-7:45 a.m. at Daphne City Hall.
