Ala. -- The Orange Beach Public Library and the Orange Beach Senior

Activity Center are proud to present a performance by award-winning

classical guitarist Peter Fletcher on Thursday, Feb. 9, at 6

p.m.

"font-size: 14.0pt;">

"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;">The

performance will take place at the Orange Beach Senior Activity

Center located at 26251 Canal Road, Orange Beach,

Alabama.

"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;">This concert

will feature selections from four centuries of classical guitar:

Renaissance, Baroque, Romantic, and Modern. A few pieces are taken

from his 2008 CD release “Music of the Baroque.”

"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;">The evening’s

repertoire will include “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring” by J. S.

Bach, which was the classical song that changed Fletcher’s life.

Two works from Maurice Ravel’s exquisite “Mother Goose Suite” will

be featured, one of which is “Pavane of the Sleeping Beauty,” which

was originally composed for other instruments but was transcribed

for the guitar by Fletcher.

"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;">Francisco

Terrega’s ever popular “Recuerdos de la Alhambra,” which features

the challenging guitar technique known as tremolo, will be

performed, an exciting piece by Spanish composer Joaquin Turina;

Grieg’s “Chanson de Solveig from Peter Gynt”; the music of

Pretorius, Ponce and Reusner; as well as the “Chaconne in D Minor”

by J. S. Bach.

"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;">The program

will culminate with “Koyunbaba” by composer/guitarist Carlo

Domeniconi. This is one of the most unique and exciting works in

the classical guitar repertoire because the entire instrument is

tuned to a C# minor chord. Every string is tuned down a half step,

resulting in a very eastern sound (the composer lives in Turkey.)

It is one of Fletcher’s favorite pieces.

"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;">Tickets for

this event are $6 each and may be purchased at the Orange Beach

Public Library Monday, Tuesday and Friday from 9 a.m.-6 p.m.,

a.m.-3 p.m.
