FAIRHOPE, Ala. — “We want the family to know that we still care.”

So said Baylynne Williford on behalf of the five teens who are leading a fundraiser for Emily Dunnam, who died on July 5 in an all-terrain vehicle accident.

Williford and Brooke Younce are 14 and will be in the 9th grade at Fairhope High School this fall. Jaylyn Bivins, Lauren Garcia and Madison Ahlborn are 13 and will be 8th-graders at Fairhope Middle School. All of them knew Emily through school sports and classes; some were her personal friends.

The five also want to get the young community involved to let them know they can do something to help.

The teens, with some help from parents, the city of Fairhope, Dr. Deadra Powe, FMS principal; and downtown merchants, have planned a “Run 4 Emily” along with a silent auction this Saturday.

“It’s a fun run of about 1.5 miles in length,” said Sherry Sullivan, city spokesperson, “and begins at the middle school and goes along Manley Road.”

Registration will be held at 8:30 a.m. in the FMS cafeteria, she said. The run starts at 9:30.

Participants can run in the race without purchasing a special T-shirt for $10, or $20 if they want a shirt. Folks can also buy a T-shirt for $15, Williford said.

Registration forms are available at Analece, Greer’s, Stowe’s Jewelry, the Fairhope Civic Center, Page & Palette, Panini Pete’s, Mr. Gene’s Beans, Downtown Street Artists and PostNet.

The silent auction will also be held in the cafeteria. Bids will be taken until 11 a.m.

In addition to the event Saturday, the group has also placed collection containers at stores throughout the city. All money collected in this endeavor will be given to the Dunnam family via an account set up at the downtown RBC Bank. Anyone who would like to make a donation should make their checks payable to: The Memorial for Emily Dunnam. The account number is 5153109093.

While the girls are grieving at the loss of their friend they said, “Everyone is talking about the happy memories they have of Emily.”
