The Coastal Chorale has been warming up their vocal chords, busy practicing and  preparing for a packed upcoming season.

The Coastal Chorale, which began in 2001, did not have any shows last year because they took some time off to reorganize themselves. During their yearlong break, the group hired Mitchell Sims as artistic director and conductor. The group also hired Jonathan Wallace, a new pianist.

The group kicked off their return from a sabbatical year with a summer show called “Do You Hear the People Sing?” Sims said “many folks are excited about the Christmas Show.”

Auditions for their upcoming Christmas Show were held in the fall.

There will be 45 singers in the Christmas Show which will be held at the Spriit Center of the Foley United Methodist Church on Dec. 3, 4 and 5.

The Christmas Show will showcase modern and classical holiday favorites. Sims describes their shows as “unique, lively, and feature our many talented singers both as the Chorale and as solos, duos and trios.” Sims expects to sell out all three Christmas shows, so make sure to get tickets early.

The Coastal Chorale will also have a Snowbird Serenade show at the First Baptist Church in Gulf Shores. Sims expects this event to sell out, with more than 2,700 guest attending their five performances. The 2011 Snowbird Serenade will be Feb. 17, 18, 19 and 20, and will include musical selections from Broadway, spiritual, pop and sacred music “all blended into one great show.” The chorale is “always excited about performing for such an enthusiastic crowd.”

Sims said the group has a “strong following here in South Baldwin County” and that the group would love for everyone to come out and enjoy some great music right here in Baldwin County.
