FOLEY, Ala. — The city of Foley is one step closer to bringing the second construction phase of Coastal Alabama Farmers & Fishermen’s Market to fruition.
During its special meeting Friday, the City Council approved financial documents enabling the Cooperative District to proceed with acquiring federal funding, or federal-tax credits, for the endeavor.
As previously reported, those plans include refurbishing an existing structure to accommodate vendors with electrical and refrigeration equipment and additional parking. The market’s first phase contains a covered, permanent outdoor space filled with 30 vendor booths, as well as restrooms and fans. Earlier this year, the city approved the use of 10 more tents for vendors vying to set up at the facility, which is located on County Road 20, next to Wolf Bay Lodge.
Prior to Friday’s vote, city leaders discussed the application process for the tax credits, which is expected to be completed by late June for a July closing. Upon the closing, they said, design plans for the market’s second phase will be considered.
“It’ll be ready,” Foley City Economic Development Director Jeff Rouzie said of the design plan.
Currently, the market is in its spring season, opening Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. After May 27, the summer season will begin. At that time, the facility will be open 2-6 p.m. Fridays and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. each Saturday.
