Campers are using Lego kits to build a variety of battling machines as part of the Collision Cars camp offered by the North Baldwin Coalition for Excellence in Education. During the camp, students are using exploration, problem solving and risk-taking to learn and experiment with how machines work and compete. Here, Erin Emmons and Nate Strum discuss the design of a vehicle.
Once the teams finish building, its time to battle. Taking part included, from left, Brenton Godwin, Nathan Allen and Watson Campbell. Throughout the weeklong camp, the students learn engineering principles, gear and gear ratios, electric motors and energy, friction, forces, motion and aerodynamics, problem solving and communication skills. Joshua McWilliams maneuvers his design in battle.
