Gulf Shores, Ala. - Gulf State Park Nature Center will serve as host location for another youth event highlight of the beachfront park's summer program season. The event takes place Monday, June 17, at 10:00 a.m.
Kelly Reetz will be leading a game called Turtle Hurdles, in which kids get to learn about the life and survival of Loggerhead Sea Turtles, and all the obstacles they have to overcome. CVB nature tourism specialist Chandra Wright said, "One month into turtle nesting season here on the Alabama Gulf Coast, the event is a great way to further raise sea turtle awareness, and in a fun way for the young participants. They will face many of the same obstacles these turtles face on our beaches and learn ways people can help make our beaches more turtle-friendly."
Wright and Reetz are trying to recruit more children to participate. Wright adds, the Turtle Hurdle game "really works best if there are 20 to 40 kids playing, so if you know of any kids who might want to participate, the more the merrier!"
