Joseph Augustus Cometti, 92, a native of Belforest and lifelong resident of Daphne, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008 at a local healthcare facility.
He retired from ADDSCO where he worked as a material checker. He was a member of New Horizons Baptist Church where he brought the morning devotion every Sunday.
He was an avid gardener and loved to share his vegetables. He was a loving and devoted husband to his wife Lucy and they would have celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on Jan. 16.
He was one of 14 children and assumed the responsibilities of the household at age 15, caring for his four sisters and his mother.
He was a true conservationist who cared about the land and loved to dove hunt and fish with his nephew Carrell and his favorite dog and pal Lucky.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Pete and William Cometti; eigh sisters, Natalina Yancey, Mary Parker, Margaret Moore, Rosie Lenz, Ida Teresa Pendegrass, Lora Gregor, Adele Marie Cox and Alexina Stapleton; and one grandchild.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille H. Cometti of Daphne; two daughters, Olympia (Olon T.) Tucker of Grant and Jennifer (Ken) Rolison of Daphne; two sisters, Elizabeth Saad and Pauline Giberich; and five grandchildren.
Visitation and funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 12 at the Eastern Shore Baptist Church. Burial followed at Wilson Cemetery, Spanish Fort.
Arrangements were made by Hughes Cremation and Funeral Service, Daphne.
