Community Action Agency makes plans for special senior days in June

Posted

DAPHNE, Ala.— The Community Action Agency will dedicate June as Senior Appreciation Month and offer programming that will “further empower seniors and show gratitude to the citizens of the communities it serves,” the agency said in a press release.

Each Wednesday will be “Senior Day,” which will culminate in a special event June 14 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the agency’s central office at 26440 N. Pollard Road. During the event, senior citizens can get beneficial and pertinent information. Donated door prizes will also be given away, but the exact items are not yet known.

Tiffany Williams with the agency said the program was set up to assist seniors.

“June is normally the month we receive our funding for the cooling assistance period. Seniors generally have a hard time getting in for an appointment because they are not aware of our heating or cooling (program) or that there is a difference between the two programs. Therefore, in an effort to make the seniors aware of the programs available, CAA decided to dedicate the month of June….” Williams said.

The events will give seniors a chance to set up an appointment if they qualify for assistance with their utility bill, along with other services offered by the agency including benefits screening, food stamp services, education services, volunteering opportunities, credit counseling, legal services, meal programs and other services.

For more information or to register, contact Tiffany Williams at 251-626-2646 or by email at tiffany.williams@caaofbecmcc.org. Deadline to register is June 6 at 5 p.m.
